Our Green Spaces:

Their Histories, Stories & Delights

Old Southwest cherishes our urban green spaces. Neighbors serve as stewards and visionaries to protect and maintain them through the work of our Environmental Preservation, Parks & Green Space Committee.

Over the years, the Old Southwest community has demonstrated a true commitment to caring for the urban green spaces that dot our shared landscape – from the rolling hills of Highland Park to the community-led Day Avenue Pocket Park project; from lots on Woods Avenue that buffer contaminants from reaching the Roanoke River to planting trees throughout the neighborhood supported by the Roanoke Tree Stewards. Our appreciation extends to plantings tended by our neighbors on their own properties — and even on their porches!
