Terry McGuire
Board Member-at-Large,
Neighborhood Preservation & Improvement Committee
I was born in Roanoke and raised in Franklin County. After graduating from Franklin County High School, I attended Virginia Tech where I studied Environmental Policy and Planning. While there, I discovered a passion for politics and organizing. For the past 15 years, I have worked in political advocacy and government affairs, including stints with the Human Rights Campaign and the Sierra Club. I'm currently employed by Earthjustice, a non-profit environmental law firm, where I focus on Clean Air Act policy and air-quality issues. In 2016 I bought my house in Old Southwest on King George Avenue, and set about fixing it up and returning to the area. I love our neighborhood, and I love Roanoke! My goals in serving on the OSW Inc. Board include: cultivating a partnership with Trees Roanoke that creates opportunities for neighbors to help rebuild our tree canopy and educate residents about the value of urban trees; preserving green space and helping facilitate maintenance and improvements in our neighborhood parks; working with city leadership to secure pedestrian and traffic safety improvements to address unsafe driving and ensure neighborhood walkability and accessibility; and increasing neighborhood engagement and participation in city decision-making and local elections. My hobbies include native plant gardening, hiking and camping, reading, and walking and biking on the Greenway. I also serve on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, the Mill Mountain Advisory Board, and as an Officer of Elections. If we haven't already met, I hope we get the chance soon!
