Our OSW Safety Liaison
Bill Dandridge
OSW Board Member-at-Large
I was born and raised in Roanoke, then moved to North Carolina in 2009 because of family educational pursuits. When I returned with my family in 2019, I specifically chose to purchase a home in Old Southwest because of its proximity to downtown, sidewalks, old trees, a neighborhood elementary school, and its parks and greenspaces. I’m so very happy to see that the Roanoke Valley actively promotes its natural beauty and realizes this as one of our greatest local treasures.
I felt very fortunate that there was an opening on the Old Southwest board a few years after moving back, and decided to get involved. Currently, I head-up the neighborhood Safety Committee, and serve as an active liaison with our community law enforcement officer. I’m especially focused on safety in Highland Park in the area around the historic Alexander Gish House, our community center. I also support the Alexander-Gish House Committee and get involved hands-on with landscape maintenance and community workdays at the house. I feel like it’s a great way to get to know my neighbors and build a strong, connected, and caring community—as we work together for the good of an important OSW asset. It makes what could seem like work into fun!
When I’m not working to support Old Southwest’s and Roanoke’s growth as a wonderful place to live, I take advantage of what the Appalachian Mountains offer. I enjoy skiing, swimming, mountain biking, and hiking, often accompanied by two children and our dog.
