I hope all are doing well! We had a great Food with Friends at On the Edge Salon recently and I thank those who attended. As usual there was fantastic food and a few new faces.
My wife and I had a conversation recently and it was about our neighborhood. When we bought our house in 2006, we did not move here for two years. When we visited several times a year we were thoroughly impressed by the people we met while visiting and several of the visits even landed on a Food with Friends. The neighborhood was so vibrant and outgoing and was very inviting, there was even a new dog park planned.
We were excited that we were moving into the neighborhood. We were never active in our neighborhoods in South Florida but felt comfortable and welcome in Old Southwest. Never before had we ever felt that way. How did you feel when you moved into Old Southwest?
This leads me to a continuing conversation…. I have been speaking in the past about volunteerism. I want to thank four people in particular who helped me clean up the grounds to the Alexander Gish House recently. Those people are Diana and Bill Austin, Amy Morgan and Allison Weaver. Thank you so very much for sacrificing a few hours to better our community (a community that three of them do not live in), I really appreciated the extra help!!
I have had two people reach out to me showing interest in joining the Old Southwest Board of Directors for 2018. If you feel that you can help in any way please let me know, there really is a lot to do. Voting will be done at the November Community Meeting 11/16/17.
There will be a safety walk September 28th, Block Pride October 7th and Parlor Tour December 2nd & 3rd. Please plan to attend as many as you can and get involved.
Thanks, Mark Hostetter
